This past Sunday, South Africans celebrated as Nomcebo Zikode, Zakes Bantwini and Wouter Kellerman won an award for the Best Global Music Perfomance at the Grammys.

Wauter Kellerman is already a 4x grammy winner with Zakes and Nomcebo winning for the first time this makes Nomcebo the only South African solo female artist to win a grammy in 57 years following the late Miriam Makeba’s win in 1966 when she became the first African artist to win a grammy.

On Sunday the Jerusalema hit maker became the first South African female artist to win a grammy in 57 years and the only the second artist artist to achieve this after Miriam Makeba. In 1966 Miriam Makeba won a grammy for the Best Folk Recording category for An Evening With Belafonte/Makeba, a collaboration between her and American singer, Harry Belafonte.
